Since I can remember, I have always found a deep love and interest in the perinatal period. My first encounter with pregnancy and birth occurred when I was very young; my mum showed me the 1995 film Nine Months, directed by Chris Columbus and starring Julianne Moore and Hugh Grant, and I was hooked!
Essentially, I watched any movie or TV show (that I was aware of) that featured the perinatal period. Some of the shows that I have watched countless times are One Born Every Minute (Channel 4) and Call The Midwife (BBC One). I bring up these films and shows because they are an integral part of the story that led me to become a birth doula; they kept the spark alive long enough for me to find a way forward into working within the birth and postpartum care world.
I have always believed that people are entitled to feel empowered during their birth, and with that comes essential perinatal support, which is where I come in. As your doula, it is my job to support you and your birthing team throughout the duration of your birth. I will never make decisions on your behalf or try to influence your choices, but I will support you in making those decisions, and yes, that includes postpartum care. I will hold space for you and your support team, and I will do my best to help you advocate for your wishes.
I understand that the perinatal period is a very vulnerable time, and I feel honoured and blessed to be able to accompany you on your journey, focusing on the emotional and spiritual well-being of my clients.
